Prof. Olivier received his doctoral degree from RWTH Aachen University in 1986. From 1986 to 1996 he was employed at the Daimler-Benz Aerospace of Airbus Company, meanwhile was delegated to the Shock Wave Laboratory of RWTH Aachen University. Since 1996 he is the head of the Shock Wave Laboratory of RWTH Aachen University.
Prof. Olivier has great influence in the field of high temperature gas dynamics. He and his group have conducted many leading works on shock wave phenomena, hypersonic and supersonic flows, deflagration and detonation.

报告内容简介:

An investigation of upstream-moving pressure waves in transonic flow on a supercritical (BAC 3-11), a symmetric (NACA 0012) and a generic airfoil is done numerically (DNS) and experimentally. The pressure waves show a highly-instationary behavior which significantly depends on the free stream Mach number. The pressure waves have an influence on the flow properties of the airfoil (i.e. shock formation). Various devices such as trailing-edge brushes, serrated trailing edges are installed in order to reduce the amplitude of the pressure waves. By damping the pressure waves a reduction of dynamical loads becomes feasible. Also, the development mechanisms of the waves are investigated and it is found that the tonal noise phenomenon also  takes place in transonic flows.
