报告题目:Lattice Boltzmann method: 21st century modeling tool and application to the Biscayne aquifer of Southeast Florida

This talk reviews the fundamentals of Lattice Boltzmann methods. These methods are based on a stream-and-collide algorithm, where the collisions are regulated by a Boltzmann-like distribution function. With the addition of particle interaction forces, a broad range of phenomena can be simulated. Relatively simple implementation of boundary conditions allows the methods to be applied to complex geometries such as porous media. Including a attractive force between the particles results in a single component separating into liquid and vapor phases. The use of two different components with a repulsive force between them leads to hydrophobic multiphase behavior. Finally, simulations involving two components with no interaction between the particles allows simulation of transport of dissolved solutes and energy. An example of the use of Lattice Boltzmann modeling for determining the permeability of the Biscayne aquifer is provided.

Now Dr. Michael C. Sukop is a full professor in department of Earth and Environment, Florida International University. He serves as a member of multiple panels for National Science Foundation and an associate editor for Vadose Zone Journal. His research interests are carbonate aquifer, water, sustainability and climate, and Lattice Boltzmann methods. He has published more than 30 peer-reviewed papers and two books:
